Frequently Asked Questions

About Our Sea Moss 🌿

1. What species is your sea moss?
Our sea moss comes from two premium North Atlantic species: Mastocarpus stellatus and Chondrus crispus. These cold-water red algae are packed with essential minerals and antioxidants, making them some of the most nutrient-dense varieties available.

2. Where is your sea moss sourced from?
Our sea moss is wild-harvested from the pristine waters of the North Atlantic Ocean. It grows naturally in its marine ecosystem, absorbing a rich spectrum of ocean minerals.

3. Is your sea moss wildcrafted or farmed?
We only provide wildcrafted sea moss, meaning it is hand-harvested from its natural ocean environment—not pool-grown or artificially cultivated. This ensures a more potent and nutrient-rich product.

Appearance & Texture 👀

4. What are the small particles attached to the sea moss?
As our sea moss is wild-harvested, you may notice tiny traces of molluscs, other algae, or ocean minerals. These are completely natural and a sign of its authenticity. Once hydrated, they are easy to rinse off before use.

5. What is the white coating on some seaweeds?
The white coating is natural salt and mineral crystallisation from the drying process. It is not mould and dissolves when rinsed and soaked. This process helps preserve the sea moss and its rich nutrient content.

Types & Differences 🌊

6. What’s the difference between white (gold) and purple sea moss?
The key differences are origin, water temperature, and nutrient profile:

  • White/Gold Sea Moss (Gracilaria, often from the Caribbean) grows in warm, tropical waters and has a milder taste with a softer texture.

  • Purple Sea Moss (Mastocarpus stellatus & Chondrus crispus) thrives in the cold, mineral-rich waters of the North Atlantic. It contains higher antioxidants (anthocyanins) and has a denser texture with a stronger mineral profile.

7. Which type of sea moss is better?
Both varieties are highly nutritious, but cold-water sea moss (purple varieties) typically contains more minerals and antioxidants. If you prefer a milder taste and softer texture, white/gold sea moss is a great option.

How to Use & Prepare 🍵

8. How do I consume sea moss?
Sea moss should always be hydrated before consumption. You can enjoy it in two main ways:

  • As whole hydrated sea moss – Add it to soups, salads, or your favourite dishes for a natural mineral boost.

  • As sea moss gel – Blend it into smoothies, juices, teas, or even use it as a natural thickener for recipes.

9. How do I rehydrate sea moss?
Rehydrating sea moss is simple:
1️⃣ Soak it in water for 5 minutes.
2️⃣ Change the water and soak for another 5 minutes or longer. For a neutral flavour, add fresh lemon or lime while soaking.
3️⃣ Watch as the sea moss expands up to five times its weight!

10. How do I make sea moss gel?
Making sea moss gel is easy:
1️⃣ Rinse your dried sea moss thoroughly to remove any natural ocean debris.
2️⃣ Soak it in spring or filtered water for 12-24 hours, adding one lime (optional) to neutralise the flavour and boost nutrients.
3️⃣ Blend the expanded sea moss with fresh water until smooth.
4️⃣ Store in a glass jar in the fridge for up to 1-2 weeks.

11. How much sea moss gel should I take daily?

12. How long does sea moss gel last?
When stored in an airtight container in the fridge, sea moss gel lasts 1-2 weeks. If frozen in ice cube trays, it can last up to 6 months.
